Fund Raiser Dinner for Ashur TV

On Saturday October 10, 2009, and as part of a wide North American tour, Ashur TV director Sargon Lazar paid a visit to Toronto, Canada for a fundraiser dinner and ACSSU was present at the event.  Mr. Lazar as well as other Ashur TV and Zowaa officials went over details of the channel, its funding, and its soon and expected coverage arrival to North America. With the help of those present, a good amount of money was raised for the channel and its operations center in Baghdad, Iraq.  There was also other music performances by Lazar bet Shmouel and a special appearance by Assyrian singer Ammanouel Bet Younan, who along with Ashur Sargis, been one of the big supporters of Ashur TV since its inception. 

The message by the Ashur TV director and other officials was clear: without the financial help of the people in the diaspora, it will be hard to keep the channel going or making its reach as far as North America (worldwide.) The channel will cost close to 1.5 million US Dollars in annual operations costs, and without the funding of all of our communities worldwide, the channel can't sustain itself, for the near future at least.  

Meeting with ACSSU

Then on Wednesday October 14, 2009, ACSSU's committee met with Sargon Lazar in a private session, and discussed various things including the channel, its staff, and the role of students and youth in helping the channel.  There was also an open exchange between ACSSU and the director of Ashur TV, including a Q&A session, where many questions were asked about the channel, its message and role in raising awareness about our people and culture.
